Overview

The Sulphide Glacier is a surprisingly moderate climb on a beautiful and complex mountain. Despite Mount Shuksan’s dramatic appearance, the Sulphide Glacier has few technical difficulties. Novice mountaineers will enjoy the casual introduction to glacier travel, and the modest challenge of the summit pyramid. All climbers will appreciate Mount Shuksan’s spectacular form. The scenery alone is worth the endeavor.

Baker Mountain Guides believes that mountains can leave an impression upon us, and few mountains are more impressive than Mount Shuksan. Discover your inspiration with our knowledgeable and personable guides on a customized ascent of the Sulphide Glacier.

ITINERARY

Baker Mountain Guides offers scheduled three-day ascents of the Sulphide Glacier. Custom itineraries available upon request.

  • Day 1: Approach

We’ll rendezvous at our office in Bellingham for orientation and gear check. Transportation will be provided to the Trailhead. We’ll follow the trail through temperate rainforest and ascend Shannon Ridge to a scenic campsite below the Sulphide Glacier.

  • Day 2: Summit Day

We’ll leave camp before dawn and ascend the Sulphide Glacier to Mount Shuksan’s famous summit pyramid. The pyramid is the crux of the climb, with moderate snow/rock climbing. We’ll summit via the Central Gully or the Southeast Ridge and descend to camp.

  • Day 3: Descent

On our final day, we’ll wake at a reasonable hour and eat a hearty breakfast. Afterwards, we’ll pack up camp, and descend Shannon Ridge to the trailhead.
